Sew Not Over: Christian and Chris

Oh, kittens. You're gonna HATE us in about 2 minutes.

Christian:
"My theme for the online challenge is kinda crazy. My theme is crazy prints and I just wanted to have fun with it and mix prints and do color. They're just funky prints, crazy mix … like a total big abstract painting."

Bitches, we love it. Not the second look so much. That one's too blocky and the proportions are really weird on it. But looks 1 and 3? LOVE. After a full season of blacks and beiges, how nice to see that he not only used prints, but he used beautiful prints and used them well. Not only THAT, but it appears that Princess CAN get away from the "puffy sleeve, bib collar, ruffles" pool he'd been drawing from too much. Oh sure, it's still recognizably Christian, but that's kinda the point. We wish we'd seen looks like this in his Bryant Park collection because unlike them, these demonstrate a more powerful creative ability and stand uniquely as his own work. Nothing derivative here. Pure PPS. We know a lot of you hate this collection but we think it's gorgeous.

Chris:

"My three-piece collection is a trio of sleek, simple, evening dresses, with an emphasis on lush fabrics and column silhouettes. Rouched velvet, matte sequins, and embroidered lace add to the sophisticated, classic looks."

Put bluntly: we thought these were awful. That "lace over a short dress" look has been done to death and this one just looks like lingerie. The second and third looks are so heavy and old-looking. We do like the bottom on Look 2, but the top is bulky and poorly fitted. And speaking of bulky, hello Look 3! She looks like she's got a change of clothes stuffed in her top. She's a tiny little size 0 model and she looks like a linebacker. There's nothing new or even stylish here. They don't look like the work of a fashion designer, they look like the work of a dressmaker.
