Gettin' Bizet and Lookin' Sloppy

Chicken alert.

Bravo's certainly packing the show with man meat this year, aren't they? We can't say we disapprove.

This dress got a lot of compliments among the viewership, it seems. We are forced once again to ask if we were all watching the same show.

It's not that we hate it or anything. It's not ugly - in fact, Lorenzo thinks it's quite pretty - and it's for the most part, well made.

It's just kinda boring with a side of tacky.

Let's break it down, shall we?

We really like those colors together. We admit, we're suckers for tone on tone. It's also a well-constructed dress. It fits her well and we like the proportions (for the most part).

The detail on the bust is pretty and she was beautifully styled. A+ for presentation.

This concludes the nitty portion of our program. Moving on to the gritty...

This is supposed to be a "night on the town" dress. Question: What the hell town does she live in? Does it have bullfighters?

Was it National Ruffle Week and no one told us? Apparently, to this lot of designers, New York can be summed up by giant flounces.

It's not just that it's so prominent that it looks like it's eating the rest of the dress, it's that the fabric he used for it is too shiny and actually looks a little cheap. And as a design element, it's more appropriate for a Carmen costume than a "night on the town" dress.

Dress good. Make woman pretty.

Or, y'know...not.

Accuse us of giving our lust object a free ride if you want (although we did say last week's dress looked like a coffin liner), but on second and third glance, this wasn't as bad as we thought, at least in design terms.

It wasn't a bad starting point for a concept. A dress based on the idea of faded and discarded pieces of paper could have been interesting and even pretty.

The problem was in how the concept was realized. To start, he made really bad fabric choices. There is not one print in there that has any visual impact or even interest.

We realize the inspiration was a faded and weathered magazine, but he needed to find a way to make those elements pretty and in this case, he went a little too literal. She looks rained on and washed out. This needed at least a hint of bolder graphic elements peeking out.

Tim was spot on when he raised fit as an issue with this design. Unfortunately, Keith didn't appear to listen, since the dress came off somewhat shapeless. On the other hand, his model dropped out unexpectedly and fit would be the exact issue impacted the most by that.

We also didn't agree with the choice to make it look like dangling sheets of paper.

Layers, yes. Floaty, dangly slips of paper that look like a parade costume? No. As always, Nina put it best.

"It's not polished, the effect is sloppy when it should be more together. Maybe it has to do with the hem --"

"But that's my point of view."

"Honey, don't interrupt when Nina's talking, alright? Nina's the one with the scorecard, got that? You think you can just cut me off at the knees like that? Like some sort of editorial assistant? You think I don't still have power? I have power, kid. Say it."

"You have power, Nina."

"Yes. Now, if you had made the hem more even..."

What was your reaction to Heidi’s harsh comments saying that your dress was “distracting and cliché,” and your ”voice as a designer” didn’t come through?

You know they’re looking for big labels, which don’t stick. I totally disagree.

Did you think Kenley’s dress deserved to win?

No. I don’t think it was flattering. We were making fun of it. One side with this huge sort of balloon, voluminous thing, and the other side just not. I think Leanne should have won, definitely.

What about all of Kenley’s comments about your dress, calling it unoriginal? Hers looked pretty similar to Balenciaga’s spring collection.

Uh huh. Um, well, first of all, in fashion you have to know that nothing is new, its just a new way of doing it. Do I think my dress was new? It’s an asymmetrical dress, so no I wasn’t breaking the minds of everyone. I was a little annoyed that they edited that clip of Kenley in, because in my opinion she heard what the judges said on the stage and then repeated it in a later interview. I just thought it was kind of tacky.

Do you have any more insight into why you think you went home?

I don’t know if I’m allowed to comment. Sandra Bernhard said it wasn’t her decision, that she actually really liked the dress, but it was a group decision in the end.

What about the strongest designers?

Leanne and Korto were my roommates and I think they both have a really strong and individual design aesthetic and I would love to see their full collections.

Crushed Rainbows and Restored Faith

Oh good lord.

There's something about middle age that makes it near-impossible to shake off the urge to scream "YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ANYTHING! GOD!" at young people as you pass them by. Most of the time, we manage to keep such impulses under control. That kinda flies out the window at the sight of Blayne, though.

He's not awful. He's just annoying. We want to take him aside and say "Kid, you're trying too hard. Stop." But then he'd probably say something stupid and the next thing you know, we'd be in jail on assault charges.

We don't hate the dress. We don't love it, but each week and with each challenge he shows a little more promise.

Whatever his inspiration was, it doesn't really say "New York at night," either in the picture or in the dress.

She looks like she fell asleep on top of a pile of birthday presents and woke up with a bunch of crushed bows stuck to her.

Similar to Emily's in that it's a plain black dress with an exuberant ruffled embellishment on it, but he used the colors well and the crushed rainbow effect was at least a little interesting.

It's so strange. We've been singing Terri's praises for the last two weeks and this week she finally gets a lot of positive attention from the judges...

...for a look that we really didn't love. Stranger still, so many of our commenters seemed to love it. We were befuddled. Are we all looking at the same outfit?

But then we decided to take our bitchpants off for once, and sit here in our bitchboxers, looking at it with a more objective eye.

We'll say this, it's a look.

And we're not being backhanded when we say that. It's a strong look that makes an impact. To be fair, the styling was perfect and Xaviera worked the shit out of it.

To be honest, one of the biggest detriments to our liking the piece was our extreme negative reaction to the fabric she chose. Much like Kenley's, this looks like '80s hotel fabric.

And we're sorry, but graffiti and posted bills as an inspiration has been done. It was done long before Santino and Kara went the same route in roughly the same challenge 3 years ago.

And we so can NOT get behind the dress-over-pants look. We didn't like it when it was in style and that was almost a decade ago.

But the shape of that dress is nice and the back of it is gorgeous.

It moves well too.

It is an interesting look, we'll give it that. Without the pants, we might even have loved it. Even though our initial reaction to this look was a collective "Hunh?" our faith in Terri is restored. We can see that she does know what she's doing and the parts of this look that we don't like can be chalked up mostly to editing and styling choices.

She may continue kicking ass on the way to Bryant Park.
