Sex and the City

Honeys, we keep going back and forth on this one. We originally thought that the idea of revisiting Carrie and the gals after they got their perfect ending sounded like a bad one. We thought the show had wrapped everything up in a nice neat bow and the four of them would be entering phases in their lives not particularly conducive to the sometimes funny, sometimes painful and oftentimes raunchy take on love, sex and relationships that the show provided.

Then we saw this:



And damn, if that doesn't look at least a little enjoyable to us. We'll grant you, it looks like they're doing everything they can to wring some drama out of it, but based on that trailer, they all still seem to have the chemistry that made the show so enjoyable in the first place.

We admit it. We miss them. The show, when it was first airing, was always a viewing must for us and like so many gays and their gals, we got together on Sunday nights with our Cosmos to jeer at Carrie and her poor choices and leer at Samantha's latest buttboy. And let's face it, at its height, the show became something of a cultural phenomenon, with countless young women pinning big fabric flowers on to themselves and declaring "I'm a Carrie!" or "I'm a Miranda!" Of course most gay men considered themselves a Samantha.

Since the show went off the air, there appears to have been a bit of a cultural backlash against it. As if we all woke up from a collective hangover wondering what we ever saw in it in the first place. But when we sit down and watch our DVDs of past seasons (yes, we own all of them), we think the show still holds up well. We suspect a lot of the backlash is directed mainly at Sarah Jessica Parker, who had so many promotional deals, she came off as something of a whore, post-SATC.

Still, we're not ashamed to admit, we'll be there when the movie opens. We still fear it's gonna suck, but our sense of nostalgia coupled with a pretty good trailer, leaves us hopeful. How about you? Are you going to see it when it comes out?
